It must have been a while since I did some cooking as it felt really good to be back in the kitchen yesterday and making something new. I tackled Chef John’s American Goulash recipe, which is a dish I’ve been trying to find something that matches my taste, or desired taste, for quite some time. Chef John really helped me get going with cooking a bunch of years back, first with breads and then with some chicken dinners, and the meals seldom disappoint.

I followed the printed recipe without watching the video which is usually worth the time. When I added the onion to the burger, I realized I hadn’t verified the quantity on the recipe of beef and only had a pound, so to improvise I pulled a pound of ground sausage from the freezer and added that to the mix. Nothing else of note, except our macaroni/elbows were a little small, but in the end the full meal was pretty good. I found it a bit salty, so I may have had a heavy hand at one point, but the quantity is HUGE (which is nice these days), and pretty easy to make.
