Definitely a quintessential album from the 80’s, this is something that I wish I had on vinyl, as I do with many of the ‘electronic’ albums on my list (Gary Numan and Jean Michel Jarre also come to mind) in part because in the 80’s that is how we still listened to music, but it’s also a nice dichotomy combining the futuristic synths of bands like AFoS with the traditional analog listening of vinyl.

Best known for I Ran (So Far Away), as that got played into the ground on all of the “Hits of the 80’s” mixes I grew to love Space Age Love Song more and more. I find their music surprisingly at ease and relaxing, not quite ambient or ethereal but not particularly manic either. Repetitive melodies, straight ahead machine-like drums, and limited vocals but put together in the tradition of good pop songs, that is what the 80’s were supposed to be about. The music was dance-able but also made to just listen to and enjoy in the background.

I don’t think I ever owned this album in any format, but it encapsulates a lot of the music from those years. See also Major Tom – Peter Schilling, 1983. Saved by Zero – The Fixx, 1983.
